The House of Representatives announces that its Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance in collaboration with the Committee on Public Accounts and Expenditure will begin hearings on the expenditure component of the draft National Budget for 2026 on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. According to a release, the official ceremony will take place in the Conference Room of the House of Representatives.
The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) will appear as the first institutions to present, marking the start of the expenditure review process. These hearings are a vital part of the Legislature’s mandate to uphold transparency, accountability, and fiscal discipline in the management of national resources.
During the proceedings, the join committee will scrutinize proposed allocations across ministries and agencies; assess expenditure priorities in alignment with national development objectives; ensure that appropriations reflect equity, efficiency, and the needs of citizens across all counties and strengthen oversight of public financial management to promote accountability and good governance.
The House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to conducting the national budget process in a transparent and participatory manner. The media, citizens, and civil society organizations are encouraged to follow the hearings as part of Liberia’s shared responsibility to reinforce democratic governance and fiscal responsibility. The hearings will continue throughout the week, with additional ministries, agencies, and commissions scheduled to appear before the Joint Committee.
