Former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah and others are expected to face Judge A. Blamo Dixon of the Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia on today, November 20, 2024, to justify the US$8 million criminal appearance bond filed through their legal team.
The former finance minister, Cllr. Nyanti Tuan, former acting Minister of Justice, Stanley A. Ford, former Director General, Financial Intelligence, D. Moses P. Cooper, former Financial Intelligence Comptroller, and Jefferson Karmon, former National Security Advisor to former President George Weah, are been prosecuted by the Government of Liberia for Economic Sabotage, Money Laundering, Criminal Facilitation, Theft, Illegal fund disbursement, Criminal conspiracy, and Misuse of public funds.
Speaking Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs Daniel O. Sando said the trial will resume on justification of the bond because it appears that the bond is not fit to meet the test of time as the property in question is not tax compliant consistent with the Liberia Revenue Code.
According to him, during the trial, government lawyers will also quiz the owner of the property that tendered the bond.
Deputy Minister Sando said from the analysis conducted from the bond by experts, it appears that the defendants are in trouble.
It can be recalled, Judge A. Blamo Dixon of Criminal Court “A” initially scheduled the hearing for Thursday, November 14, 2024 to address the government’s objection to Tweah’s US$8 million criminal appearance bond.
The hearing will consider the prosecution’s motion of exceptions and a motion for justification of sureties, following initial procedural delays.
