The Executive Director of the Ahlu (AS) Assembly for Development in Liberia, Sheikh Askary Musa Kromah, has urged national government and leaders at all levels to prioritize the welfare of Liberians above personal and parochial interests.
Ahlu-Bay is an Arabic Phrase that literally means, “People of the House” or “Family of the House”. Within the Islamic tradition, the term refers to the family of Prophet Muhammad.
In his sermon delivered at the end of Ramadan held at the Ahlu-Bay Mosque, he emphasized the need for policies to be implemented with the best interest of citizens at heart, particularly in addressing hunger, poverty, unemployment, and insecurity across the nation.
“It is disheartening that many Liberians are struggling to afford basic necessities, especially during a festive season meant for love, sharing, and celebration,” he said.
To prevent similar tragedies, the prelate urged governments and legislative assemblies to identify and address systemic failures fueling widespread poverty and hardship.
He further stressed that government expenditures must reflect sensitivity to citizens’ struggles, urging prudent spending and prioritization of initiatives that directly improve lives.
Sheikh Kromah also called for increased investments in agriculture to boost food production, reduce the cost of essential food items

The religious leaders then used the occasion to call on Muslims to emulate the manners and lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), adding that God’s purpose of sending Muhammed was to guide human beings on the right path.
“He lived a life that is worthy of emulation, and as God himself had said in the Qu’ran, he is a role model for believers to follow,” he said
