The Liberia National Police (LNP) has maintained that the arrest of Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Chairman Janga Kowo was executed on the basis of probable cause. However, the LNP noted that although Mr. Kowo was released immediately upon arrival at its headquarters, the manner in which the arrest was executed has raised questions and sparked public attention. Thus, the Inspector General of Police, Gregory Coleman, has directed the Professional Standards Division to launch a full review of the incident.
According to a statement, this investigation will meticulously examine video evidence and other relevant details surrounding Mr. Kowo’s apprehension, with a focus on the use of force during the arrest. According to the LNP statement, “A thorough inquiry into the use of force will be conducted, and upon completion, the findings will be made public,” underscoring a commitment to transparency and dedication to accountability in addressing public concerns.
However, the Police reminded the public of its duty to uphold the law and cooperate with law enforcement officers, emphasizing that collective commitment from every citizen is vital for maintaining peace and ensuring public safety throughout Liberia.
The LNP pledged its commitment to ensuring accountability and urged the public to seek accurate information regarding this matter. “As the investigation progresses, the public is encouraged to rely on verified sources and avoid spreading potentially misleading information,” the statement said.
