The Liberia National Police (LNP) through its Inspector General Col. Gregory O.W. Coleman has provided updates on recent major crimes in the country, including the mysterious death of Boulevard Palace Hotel Manager, the burning of the Capitol Building, alleged killing of a man by his son, and the recent mob violence that led to the death of two persons.

IG Coleman said the LNP is investigating some persons of interest in the death of Boulevard Palace General Manager Anwar Futoo. Speaking during a news conference held at the police headquarters, Col. Coleman said the death of the Boulevard Palace General Manager is believed to be a suicide.

He said the deceased went to a humanitarian home on 9th Street, where he (Arwar Futoo) allegedly went to the bathroom and consumed a cleaning substance. According to him, the screams from the bathroom made the security guard rush in, where he allegedly met Mr. Futoo lying.

The IG, in a minimum detail, said that prior to the victim going to the humanitarian’s home, he allegedly went to a supermarket to buy a substance used for cleaning. However, he said the police are still digging into the incident and more findings will be revealed after the coroner’s inquest.

Speaking on the recent burning of the Capitol Building, the police chief said it is believed to be an arson attack following their joint investigation with the Fire Service, but LNP has written the US Embassy in Monrovia to assist them with some international expertise who will give an independent report on the incident.

Meanwhile, IG Coleman disclosed that four persons were arrested in the Sunday, December 29, 2024 mob violence that occurred at the 72nd Junction where two alleged motorbike thieves were killed. At the same time, several efforts have been made to curtail the stealing of motorbikes following numerous complaints from motorcyclists.
