The former Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah Morlu has blamed their government for the failure to pressurize Bea Mountain to implement its Mineral Development Agreement.
Morlu, now National Chairman of Solidarity Trust for A New Day (STAND), made the disclosure during a one-day fact-finding visit to Kinjor last Saturday.
“Currently, I am no longer chairman of the CDC. I must have apologized for the Weah-led government not taking notice of alleged bad labor practices and other forms of human rights violations allegedly committed by the company and the Liberia National Police in the past,” Morlu said.
Morlu: “First of all, I want to express our deepest condolences for the deaths inflicted on you by officers of the Liberia National Police.”
Morlu said the visit was part of the organization’s quest to seek the interests of ordinary people and workers who have experienced bad labor practices at the hands of the Bea Mountain Mining Company.
The fact-finding visit of STAND followed a wild-cat demonstration by residents in which three persons were killed and 11 others injured.
The incident led to the destruction of the Police Deport and barracks in Kinjor, a local radio station and several private properties.
According to him, STAND went to Kinjor to see whether or not the company has begun implementing some of the demands of the residents which sparked the demonstration.
Meanwhile, Beas Mountain has begun the rehabilitation of roads and the construction of water facilities in Kinjor, Grand Cape County.
