The Civil Servant Association of Liberia (CSAL) has strongly condemned the recent ruling by the Supreme Court of Liberia regarding the impasse at the House of Representatives.

Speaking on Thursday, May 1, 2025, during the International Labor Day celebration, CSAL President Moibah Johnson stated that the Supreme Court’s decision is a “big error” with potentially severe consequences for government operations and public workers.

President Johnson expressed concern that enforcing the court’s ruling could compel civil servants, teachers, and healthcare workers to repay salaries and benefits received from the 2025 budget.

“The functioning of the Liberian government is dependent on budgetary funding, which could be severely disrupted or even halted,” he said.

He also mentioned that the association plans to protest the ruling and will urge the Court to reconsider its decision.

Johnson stressed that political disputes should be resolved by elected officials, not through the judiciary, and emphasized the democratic principle that the majority should prevail.

It is important to note that the Supreme Court ruling declared the entire 2025 National Budget, which was passed by the House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, illegal and unconstitutional due to the absence of embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa as the presiding officer.
