The Sinoe County Health Team has confirmed an outbreak of the Monkeypox virus with six suspected cases currently under investigation in District #2. This alarming development was disclosed on Tuesday by Mr. Osieh G. Smith, Risk and Communication Director for the Sinoe County Health Team.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Smith detailed that the Monkeypox virus is a double-stranded DNA virus known to cause Monkeypox disease in humans and other mammals. The health team has taken swift action, dispatching a team of practitioners to the affected district to assess the severity of the suspected cases.
“In response to the situation, specimens from the suspected cases have been sent to Nimba County for further testing,” Mr. Smith confirmed. He emphasized the importance of rapid response and vigilance in preventing the spread of the virus.
Mr. Smith also called on the citizens of Sinoe County to adhere strictly to preventive measures. He urged the public to avoid touching or consuming animals that may be infected with the Monkeypox virus, whether dead or alive.
He further advised families to separate sick individuals from others in the household and to contact health authorities immediately by dialing 4455. The Sinoe County Health Team remains on high alert as they continue to monitor the situation closely, with further updates expected as more information becomes available.
