Missteps-In-Rule-Of-Law-LPDP-Asserts

The Liberia People Democratic Party (LPDP) has criticized the Government of Liberia for what it sees as missteps in proceeding with the rule of law. Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 in Congo Town, National Chairman, D. Wa Hne said while it is true that the Unity Party led government is striving to maintain the rule of law as a key component of its ARREST Agenda, it has in some instances committed some missteps in terms of adherence.

Chairman Hne mentioned the Illegal removal of people from tenured positions against Supreme Court ruling, non-adherence to the Public Procurement Concessions Commission (PPCC) Regulations are instances of unprofessional conduct of key state actors to include the action of the Liberia National Police (LNP) during the Kinjor protest in Grand Cape Mount County that resulted to the deaths of some citizens, and the recent exhibition of provocations with the deployment of armed police officers at the of the Congress for Democratic Change.

The LPDP National Chairman also noted the deployment of AFL personnel at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) during the arrival of former President George Weah. Among others. Hne called on President Boakai to respect the laws of the land and keep the security apparatus in check.

Meanwhile, LPDP called on the Liberian leader to play the role of a statesman and maintain the peace and stability of the nation. “Ambassador Boakai as President of the country now, is under constitutional obligation to reunite the country after the turbulent elections which caused division and bitterness amongst Liberians,” he said.

The LPDP Chairman narrated that his party has observed that the country is still under tension and widely divided on political lines for which reconciliation has become a national imperative. He said the absence of reconciliation is the beginning of a chaotic society which truncates development and human progress.
