Days after paying what may be described as an “inappropriate” tribute at the funeral of late Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson, the Youth Chairman for the Movement for Democratic Reconstruction (MDR) Czar Mabulu Palay has apologized to Vice President Jeremiah Kpon Koung, the political leader of the party.
In his written apology dated January 22, 2025, Chairman Palay said he realized that his words were not only out of place, but disrespectful to the solemnity of the occasion and to the memory of their late political leader.
“I hope this message finds you well during an undoubtedly challenging time. I am writing to express my heartfelt apologies for the inappropriate statement I made during the recent funeral of our governing council chairman, the late PYJ; I realize that my words were not only out of place but also deeply disrespectful to the solemnity of the occasion and to the memory of our late political leader,” he explained.
According to him, he has understood that a funeral is a time for mourning, remembrance, and unity; saying, his remarks may be detracted from the gravity of the moment.
The MDR Youth Chair narrated that it was never his intention to cause any distress or discomfort, especially to the Vice President and the late Senator’s families. In the letter, he spoke about his utmost respect for the office of the Vice President and the dignity that is required in such situations.
“I understand that my words may have been perceived as insensitive, and for that, I am truly sorry,” Palay said.
MDR Youth Chairman Palay has taken responsibility for his actions as well as recognizing the importance of being mindful and respectful, particularly during times of national grief.
According to him, the incident has highlighted the need for greater awareness and sensitivity in his communications and he is committed to learning from the experience.
“Please allow me to extend my most sincere condolences to you and all those affected by this loss. I deeply appreciate your understanding and your unwavering service to our nation during this difficult time. Once again, I apologize for my thoughtless words, and I assure you that I will strive to be more considerate in the future,” he said.
