As the struggle for Bishopship continues within the United Methodists Church, Bishop Samuel J. Quire Jr., has Clearfield that the United Methodists Church is not a gay church.

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, Bishop Quire delivered his annual address at the 192nd United Methodists Annual Conference held in Gbarnga, Bong County.

Bishop Quire addressed the ongoing issues surrounding same-sex marriage, urging the church to “speak with one voice and stand firm on biblical beliefs.”

Bishop Quire said the Bible clearly states that marriage is between one man and one woman, and any deviation from this is not in line with the teachings of the church.

He said members of the church must uphold their beliefs and not be swayed by societal pressures.

“The church must remain true to the word of God and not be influenced by the changing views of the world,” Bishop Quire said, adding that the church should be a place of love and acceptance for all, while upholding biblical principles.

The issue of same-sex marriage has been a controversial topic within the United Methodists Church for years.

In 2024, the United Methodists Church bishop and some pastoral deligates voted against same-sex marriage at the general conference in the United States of America and the ordination of LGBTQ clergy, causing division within the church.

The conference, which started Wednesday, February 12, 2025, and is expected to end Sunday, is attended by clergy and lay members from across the country.

It serves as an opportunity for members to gather, discuss important matters, and make decisions on the direction of the church.

Bishop Quire’s message was well received by attendees, who praised his strong stance on the issue of same-sex marriage expressed their gratitude for his leadership during these challenging times.

As the conference comes to a close on Sunday, the United Methodists Church says it remains committed to upholding biblical principles, while also promoting love and acceptance for all individuals. By: Edwin D. Khakie edwinkhakie0@gmail.com
