The Ambassador of the Republic of France to Liberia, Madam Isabelle LE GUELLEC, has reaffirmed her government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) following a high-level meeting focused on border security and migration management.
The discussions highlighted key areas of mutual interest, including enhancing border security, capacity building in migration governance, combating human trafficking, strengthening anti-terrorism measures, improving the detection of document fraud, and modernizing immigration services through the deployment of technology-driven solutions.
Ambassador LE GUELLEC underscored France’s readiness to support the operational growth of LIS, pledging specialized training programs and providing modern equipment to enhance efficiency and service delivery. She emphasized the importance of coordinated regional approaches to effectively address emerging migration trends and evolving transnational security challenges.
Commissioner General of Immigration, Colonel Elijah Rufus, lauded the Government and people of France for their sustained partnership and contributions to Liberia’s development. He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in border management, security enhancement, and migration governance.
As part of ongoing collaboration, the French Ambassador proposed a joint assessment mission to southeastern Liberia, to be undertaken in partnership with the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC) and other stakeholders. The mission aims to evaluate concerns regarding the influx of other African nationals into the region and to recommend appropriate response mechanisms.
