Elijah Rufus, the Commissioner General-designate of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), has urged officers to serve with humility and foster a culture of love for one another.

He made this statement on Monday, March 17, 2025, as immigration officers warmly welcomed him to his new role following his appointment from acting Commissioner General to the official position.

Rufus emphasized that with humility and mutual respect, there would be no place for hate or distractions within the LIS. He encouraged officers to avoid transferring their frustrations onto others and to work collaboratively for the betterment of the organization.

“There is no need for blame-shifting or propaganda,” Rufus stated. “I know the officers for who they are, not just what I hear about them.”

He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for celebrating this milestone with him, noting that it is a privilege to work in such a supportive environment.

Former LIS Consultant George Hanford expressed pride in Rufus’s journey through the ranks of the institution, remarking on his reputation for humility. “Rufus is courageous, development-focused, and a man of his word; that is why we will ensure his success,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner for Nationalization N. Dixon Tamba also praised the occasion, stating that the decision they were celebrating was not orchestrated by anyone. He expressed joy that one of their own had been elevated to this important role. “We are happy to support you completely, and we will work together for the betterment of Liberia and the LIS,” he said to the Commissioner General-designate.
