Lions Clubs, MCC Launch Tree-Planting Initiative

The Liberia Lions Clubs, alongside the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), has launched over 100 specialized coconut trees planting in Monrovia starting with the PHP Park coastline.

This initiative seeks to beautify the PHP Park, maintain cleanliness, and improve safety in the the community.

The Clubs on February 15, 2025, completed the planting of over hundred coconut trees along the coastal ways in the PHP Park.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice President of Liberia Jeremiah Koung, Macdonald Metzger, Deputy Chief of Office Staff for Administration, stressed the need for environmental sustainability in Liberia amidst the persistent waves of global climate change.

He disclosed that environmental sustainability is not just a government priority, but also requires a holistic approach, most especially from those living along the coastline.

According to him, the move by the two Lions Clubs is a call for action to every Liberian to join efforts in protecting the planet and building a sustainable future.

The planting of over one hundred coconuts trees was organized by the Lions Club International in Partnership with the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), marking a key step in mitigating the effects of climate change.

Monrovia City Mayor John Charuk-Siafa thanked the Lions Clubs and outlined their pivotal role in organizing the event.

Mayor Siafa called for widespread community participation to safeguard critical infrastructure along Liberia’s coastline, which is increasingly threatened by rising sea levels.

For his part, the President of Greater Monrovia Lions Club, Cllr. Bobby Livingstone said the action of the two clubs is intended to buttress the efforts being made by the mayor. He said the Greater Monrovia Lions Club will continue to support the vision of the MCC boss to make Monrovia a cleaner and greener city in the region.
