The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has nominated two young cyber security experts to represent Liberia in the United States Department of State technical experts symposium to increase regional cooperation and sectorial information sharing on cyber threats.
The U.S exchanged communication notes: “The United States Department of State is pleased to invite your government to nominate two representatives to participate in a technical symposium for technical experts from West African National Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs)/Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs).”
As a result of the communication, MS. Feona Arman led by Victor Jarwolo, Assistant Cybersecurity head of Liberia ECOWAS Cybersecurity Focal Point is currently in Accra, Ghana participating in the training.
The three-day event will bring together selected West African computer incident handling teams that are focused on computer security incident handling to build technical and leadership capacity to defend against cyberattacks through national CERTs/CSIRTS.
The symposium aims to increase regional cooperation and sectorial information sharing on cyber threats and incidents. The first day will focus on a discussion on how national CSIRTs in West Africa can foster regional trans-national information sharing and coordination.
The following two days will consist of training on cyber threat intelligence analysis, the inclusion of multiple data sources, and the fusion of this data to create information that can be applied and shared in the incident response process.
Experts from the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) CERT Division will conduct the training. The initiative is for the Governments of Benin, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
Participants at the symposium are expected to speak about their government’s approach to cyber security incident handling and information sharing.
The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization of Ghana through the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) will serve as cohost. Due to U.S. funding restrictions, law enforcement, military, and intelligence community personnel are not eligible for this workshop.
