Liberia has been chosen to host the 8th Conference of the Association of African Maritime Administration (AAMA). The event is scheduled for September 30 to October 3, 2025, in Monrovia. Speaking on Thursday, September 25, 2025, Robert W. Kpadeh, Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), said it is a historic honor for Liberia to host such a gathering.

He said the conference will focus on Africa’s Blue Economy, addressing opportunities for economic growth, sustainability, and maritime governance across the continent. The African Maritime Conference will focus on several critical areas, including developing strategies and roadmaps to ensure the long-term viability and economic benefits of Africa’s maritime resources, Kpadeh disclosed.

He also told journalists at a MICAT press briefing that Decarbonization and promoting environmentally sustainable practices in maritime operations, Leveraging Artificial Intelligence and modern technology to enhance efficiency and competitiveness in the maritime industry, among others, will be part of the agenda. According to him, Liberia is committed to developing local talent. Recently, 25 students were enrolled in the Regional Maritime Institute.

“We aim to provide our youth with opportunities to compete globally, from maritime law to ship engineering, ensuring Africa’s maritime industry thrives”, he added. The conference is expected to bring together over 250 international delegates, which he believes will provide substantial economic benefits to Liberia.  He said delegates will spend on hotels, restaurants, and local services, directly contributing to our economy. He said Liberia is recognized as a global leader in the maritime industry, holding the world’s second-largest ship registry.
