Maryland County District #1 Representative P. Mike Jury has written the Plenary for the establishment of an Internal Audit Department (IAD) at the House of Representatives.
In a communication read on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Representative Jury said the absence of an IAD continues to cast doubts over the operations, credibility and reputation of the House. He said the need to establish the IAD is cardinal for transparency and accountability at the House of Representatives.
“The IAD should be established to perform the following roles: establish a financial system, review processes and procedures, examine financial records, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, assess/evaluate risks and develop recommendations to improve risk management, advise leadership, promote ethics, safeguard assets, enhance efficiency, and investigate fraud,” he said.
He said the establishment of the internal audit department will conform to best practice and help restore the dignity, prestige, pride, and morale of the House. Following the reading of the communication, the plenary accepted and approved the establishment of the Internal Audit Department.
