Grand Gedeh County District #1 Representative Jeremiah Sokan has submitted a bill to the House of Representatives titled An Act to Amend Section 2.2 of the Local Government Act of 2018.
Representative Sokan said the repeal and amendment of certain provisions of the Local Government Act of 2018 will grant the County Legislative Caucus oversight responsibility of the county budget and development approval process.
He stated that the exclusion of the County Legislative Caucus in exercising its oversight responsibility undermines the principle of check and balance, as well as hinders effective local governance.
The Grand Gedeh County Lawmaker believes that it could lead to a lack of transparency and accountability in the management of the county’s resources.
The proposed law seeks to repeal and replace Sub-Section 2.2 (e) “Approve the annual county budget,” and Sub-Section 2.2(f) “Approve a county development plan and its implementation.”
Following the reading of the Bill, Plenary instructed the Committees on Good Governance, Ways, Means, and Finance, Internal Affairs, and Judiciary, to review and advise the body within two weeks.
