Nenneh Community residents in Gbarnga have threatened a massive protests over a disputed land in Bong County.
Belleh T. Quenah, speaking at a press conference on January 18, 2025, said the Nenneh Community Family land was taken from them by the late Stephen Tolbert, brother of former President William Richard Tolbert, to initiate development in the
Quenah drew the attention of the county authority on land dispute cases in their community.
He said they are ready to reclaim their family land on grounds that the Tolberts didn’t purchase the land, but it was given to them by their forefathers to make farms. The 934.8 acres of the disputed land of the Nenneh Family currently have palm and rubber farms on it which was planted by the late Stephen Tolbert.
The aggrieved citizens said they are disappointed in the family of the late Stephen Tolbert on grounds they have printed a false document from “The World Trade Center” in Monrovia claiming that it’s a deed for the land.
“It’s a false document because former President William Richard Tolbert, who served as the 20th president of Liberia from 1971 until his assassination in 1980, has his name and signature in the document, and it was probated on April 20, 1982. How can that be? Meaning former President William Richard Tolbert spirit signed the document for the land,” Belleh T. Quenah said.
According to Quenah, they have applied all efforts to the settlement of the land dispute between them and the Tolbert family, but to no avail.
He said the Liberia Land Authority, through its local office in Gbarnga, Bong County, invited both parties, but the Tolbert family refused to honor the invitation.
Quenah said they again wrote the office of the County Attorney, Jonathan N. Flomo, regarding the land conflict between them and the Tolbert family, adding that a conference was called by the Attorney, but a single person from the Tolbert family didn’t attend.
“We are prepared to take our land back from the Tolberts because they didn’t purchase it. In fact, they destroyed our family property, so the palm and rubber are the replacement,” they stressed.
The citizens emphasized that they are prepared to die for their rights and the land. Meanwhile, the aggrieved citizens are calling on the national government of President Joseph Boakai and Jeremiah Kpan Koung to intervene in the land dispute case. If not, there will be chaos in Bong County in the coming days.
However, when contacted, Bong County Attorney Jonathan N. Flomo did not respond to our inquiry until press time.
Meanwhile, our reporter was unable to establish contact with the accused family (Tolbert family) regarding the allegations lavish against them. Investigation continues. Courtesy By: Edwin D. Khakie
