The Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung Wednesday, May 8, 2024, hosted his first acquaintance meeting of the “National Food Security and Nutrition Steering Committee” involving sector line ministers and agencies of government.

Vice President Koung is the National Chairperson of the Food Security and Nutrition Steering Committee and National Convener of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Secretariat under the Office of the Vice President.

The meeting, among other things, was meant to provide updates on the “Liberia Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Costed Strategic Plan (LMNCSP) which was launched in December 2023 by the Government of Liberia.

The five-year plan (2024-2028) seeks to reduce all forms of malnutrition by strengthening the government’s role in providing nutrition services and developing a multi-sectoral approach to nutrition in Liberia.

The Meeting discussed the Government’s commitment and support for the implementation of the nutrition costed plan while ensuring that financing for the plan is included in the national budget.

The Vice President informed committee members that he would shortly lead a delegation from his office to include the SUN Secretariat and other relevant stakeholders to Freetown, Sierra Leone to visit with the Office of the Vice President of that neighboring country on experience sharing of similar efforts on Nutrition.

He said Liberia needs to learn and understand how the Vice President Office of Sierra Lone has succeeded in implementing its nutrition program with donors, INGO partners, and other stakeholders’ support.
