“Inequity In Liberia”…Blay-Attoh on Low Salaries of Health Workers

Rising health sector advocate Madam Patience  Blay-Attoh has decried the staggering disparity in compensation in Liberia where healthcare workers who are the unsung heroes of our country’s health system, are grossly underpaid, while government officials and legislators indulge in exorbitant salaries and benefits.

In a strongly worded statement  written to this paper, the Liberia Ministers Association of Minnesota, USA, Executive said this unconscionable gap raises questions about the society’s priorities and the value placed on human life. “Healthcare workers in Liberia, including nurses, doctors, and support staff, toil tirelessly for meager salaries, often struggling to make ends meet,” she said.

Meanwhile, Madam Blay-Attoh said government officials and legislators, responsible for allocating resources and making decisions that impact the lives of millions, receive lavish compensation packages, including hefty salaries, benefits and perks.

This stark contrast, she said, is all the more jarring when considering the critical role healthcare workers play in ensuring the health and well-being of communities; their dedication and expertise save countless lives, while government officials often prioritize political gain and self-interest.

“The current state of affairs is unacceptable and demands immediate attention. It is essential that we reevaluate our priorities and work towards creating a more equitable system, where those who truly deserve it – our healthcare heroes – receive the compensation and recognition they deserve,” Madam Blay-Attoh said.

The Liberian prelate said it is time for citizens to demand more from government and legislators, saying, “It is time for a change. The future of our healthcare system and the well-being of our society depend on it.”

She said God has already blessed Liberia but the way this blessing is utilized matters. Courtesy By Patience BLAY Attoh Email: pbattoh_27@yahoo.com, 952-201-9287
