The Muslims Elder Supreme Council has praised President Joseph N. Boakai for his many contributions towards the death of Centenarian Alhaji Amadu Sheriff. The late Sheriff who lived beyond 100 years died on Friday, September 27, 2024 at his Chocolate City residence in Garnerville.
Speaking Thursday, October 3, 2024 during the Seventh Day feast of the late Sheriff in Chocolate City, Sheikh Seku Sheriff, the Islamic Advisor to President Boakai, said since the death of their brother, President Boakai has been very supportive to the family and the Muslim community at large.
He said, “We are here today to send our thanks and appreciation to President Joseph Boakai and the Government of Liberia for their contributions towards our brother.” According to Sheriff, the Muslim Community is happy for what the government has done during their time of bereavement.
The Islamic Advisor to the President said the action of the government has proven that it cares for every individual and its citizens. “When our brother passed away, the President was one of the first persons who extended his sympathy to the Muslims community, despite his busy schedule in America,” he added.
He said the president communicated with them through the Elder Supreme Council, sending his concern and promising to join them as soon as he arrives in Liberia. He revealed that the President authorized the Vice President to be with the Muslim community until after the burial of the late Sheriff.
The Presidential Islamic Advisor said the government provided three cows, ten bags of rice, cars and the ATS Stadium for the funeral, among others. It can be recalled that President Boakai expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and community of the late Alhaji Amadu Sheriff, a revered elder and prominent Liberian citizen.
Alhaji Sheriff, who lived beyond 100 years, served Liberia in numerous capacities throughout his lifetime, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom, leadership, and devotion to his country and community.
However, in recognition of his lifetime of service, the late Sheriff was honored by President Boakai with one of the nation’s highest distinctions, the Humane Order of African Redemption, at the rank of Knight Grand Commander.
