A high power delegation led by Daehaeng Kim DK from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is in Liberia on an assessment mission.

The IMF delegation is in the country to assess the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Country Program.
The team, which is expected to be in Liberia from June 24 to July 5, 2024, has met with the Minister of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), Boima Kamara.

The IMF assessment mission aims to negotiate the ECF New Country Program and ensure macroeconomic stability and inclusive development for Liberia.

The team’s visitation follows an invitation from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai when he visited the headquarters of the IMF in December, 2023.

The mission will involve series of structured meetings with Liberia’s financial and government institutions, donor agencies and international partners.

The goal is to set the policy agenda, review fiscal performance, and discuss structural reforms needed to support Liberia’s economic stability.

Some of the areas expected to be visited by the IMF Mission include, the Presidency, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Central Bank of Liberia, Liberia Revenue Authority, Legislature, PPCC, LBDI, World Bank, AfDB, Ministry of Commerce and LISGIS.

Speaking during the IMF visit at the Ministry of Finance Monday, June 24, 2024 in Monrovia, Minister Kamara said Liberia remains grateful for the partnership. According to him, restoring the CEF program with the IMF is important to the nation.

Minister Kamara added that it is important because every other engagement with the World Bank, European Union will be in place.

“Having on track the CEF program will simply means making sure that issues around budgetary support, additional support for critical infrastructure in our country by USIAD and other partners will hinge on making sure that Liberia good governance practice in the contest of fiscal management is of importance,” Minister Kamara.
