Imam Craves Inclusive Government

Imam-Craves-Inclusive-Government

The Deputy Chief Imam for International Affairs of the National Muslim Council of Liberia and Chief Imam of the Wilson Corner Central Mosque in Brewerville has craved the indulgence of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and his cabinet to embrace an inclusive and merits based system of government.

Speaking recently in District #17 Montserrado County, Sheikh Rashid A. Sheriff urged President Boakai that his government should be a government of inclusion.

He said during the Holy Month of Ramadan, they prayed throughout the thirty days for Allah to keep the peace, stability and security of Liberia.

“Let the government be a government of inclusion. President Boakai and his cabinet should embrace a merit based system of government. As long you are a Liberian and qualify to serve, you must be given the opportunity to serve. These issues must be who can contribute positively and deliver well for the growth and national progress,” Imam Rasheed said.

Also, commenting on unity as the hallmark for national growth and development, Imam Rashid urged President Boakai and his cabinet to focus on uniting the country, urging that the days of politics are over.

He called on Liberians to not be divided across political lines because after elections, there is only one goal and objective- Liberia.

Meanwhile, Imam Rashid has termed as completely unacceptable and ridiculous the constant abusive acts against the Presidency by some public figures and citizens.

He urged Muslims to continue to follow the teachings and doctrines of all by respecting their leaders, adding that, “We can’t flourish in a country where we disrespect our leaders”.

It can be recalled, Muslims on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 joined their counterparts around the world to observe the Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.

Since March 11, 2024, Muslims have been abstaining from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset, in observation of the third pillar of Islam, which obligates adult Muslims who are not acutely or chronically ill, travelling, elderly, breastfeeding, diabetic, pregnant or menstruating to fast for 29 or 30 days.

According to Chapter 2 verse 185 of the Quran, “Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the standard ˹to distinguish between right and wrong˺. So whoever is present this month let them fast. But whoever is ill or on a journey, then ˹let them fast˺ an equal number of days ˹after Ramadan˺. Allah intends ease for you, not hardship, so that you may complete the prescribed period and proclaim the greatness of Allah for guiding you, and perhaps you will be grateful.”

After completing 30 days of fasting on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, Muslims commemorated the day with a special prayer, followed by an elaborate festival.
