Mr. Togba T. Yango, father of a 32-year-old woman identified as Mercy Q. Yango, is pleading with humanitarian organizations and philanthropists to help his daughter seek advanced medical treatment.

Speaking with this paper on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Mr. Yango said his daughter started suffering from high blood pressure five years ago after child birth.
He explained that the high blood pressure was initially treated as a gestational hypertension.

Later, Yango stated that she began to experience severe angina with sleepless nights before being taken to the 14 Military Hospital where she was treated with some antibiotics.

Mr. Yango said about two week ago, his daughter’s feet became swollen at which time she was taken to John F. Kennedy Hospital where seven different tests diagnosed her with cardiothoracic disease.

To remedy the situation, Yango disclosed that his daughter is required to undergo a heart surgery which cannot be done in Liberia.

He said family members have been informed of a hospital in India that can perform the operation for around US$30,000.

“We are calling on humanitarian and philanthropists to help us afford the bill because all little resources have been spent on hospital bills at JFK, and the hospital in India is informing the family that is urgent that she be taken out of the country,” he said.

Mr. Yango said doctors at JFK have stabilized her and placed her on oxygen as source of breathing until the family is able to take her out of Liberia.
