Former Grand Gedeh County Superintendent Christopher Beh Bailey has described voluntarism as the hallmark of community service. Bailey made the statement when he was elected on white ballot to steer the affairs of the Thinkers Village Block-D Community for the next two years.

Those elected include Christopher Beh Bailey-Chair, Dr. Juwe Kercula-Co-Chair, Amb. Fatorma Judson Boakai- Secretary General, Pst. Ellen S. Jones-Treasure and Madam Myre Johnson- Financial Secretary. Bailey outlined his vision for the community, emphasizing unity, voluntarism and collective action as cornerstones of effective leadership.

He said true leadership requires a commitment to serving others without the expectation of personal gain, noting “The hallmark of such an organization is voluntarism, the willingness of each individual comprising such an organization to render services in the interest and betterment of the community without thinking of receiving a salary or pecuniary benefits.”

The newly elected chairman acknowledged the challenges inherent in community leadership but called for a shared passion among residents to uplift the community through mutual support, embracing their role as active contributors to Block D’s growth through passion and collective efforts. Prominent among his plans is the formation of a sanitation team to improve waste management and public health, infrastructure improvements, enhancement of road conditions and installation of street lighting to curb crime.

Another pivotal focus was the establishment of a recreational center aimed at providing safe spaces for children and families. “We will negotiate with landowners for the development of this hub, which will enrich our community’s recreational opportunities,” Bailey said. He said, “Our goal should be and must be collective actions in all our undertakings if we wish to succeed and make our block, our community, a model that is to be envied and emulated.” He expressed a commitment to work with local and international organizations to bolster outreach, from supporting orphanages to empowering single mothers through skill development.
