An online university comprising of colleges offering courses in different dimensions, has launched an innovative web and mobile application created by Liberians and tailored to e-learning platform that allows students get quality education.

Hope-Tech University (HTU) e-learning platform allows students get the comfort of their homes using their phones and laptops among other devices. The platform will also enable professionals to earn more, while contributing to the society.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the project recently at Orange Digital Center in Congo Town, Giahseymehn Barseegiah, President of Hope-Tech University, said the platform is intended to bridge the gap in the education sector in Liberia by widening digital access to quality education.  According to him, about 15% of the Liberian population is actively using the internet.

Barseegiah acknowledged that there are challenges, such as buying data, obtaining smart phone, laptop and other gadgets but it wouldn’t stop the learning process. He added that the number of internet users will increase because the world has gone digital.

“For example, you are a resident in other parts of Liberia and you want to attend a university here, which requires that you come to Monrovia to acquire that education you desired. But with this platform, we want to bridge the gap where you can study courses relating to the H-Tech University right from your home,” Barseegiah explained.

He explained that it is not only about the courses the university offers, but also people who are abroad and want to learn their vernacular can enroll because H-Tech will also be offering lessons on local dialects of the country.

Barseegiah further mentioned that the platform is open to diverse courses, with some of their instructors residing in Nigeria and other parts of the African region.

“We will be working with high schools, technical vocational education institutions, and universities, as well as NGOs who are involved with human development other cooperate entities, and governmental institutions to solve major issues,” he disclosed.
