The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 launched the 2024 National cadet program. The program will take place in four counties across the country.

The National Cadet Program, which was established on June 11, 1986 by former President Samuel Kanyon Doe, is among other things geared towards empowering Liberians especially youth and graduating senior students.

The targeted beneficiaries will be placed into public and private institutions to acquire relevant job experience for possible employment.

Speaking at the launching, Youth and Sports Minister, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu said the cadet program is a three month initiative designed to recruit young graduates and graduating seniors from various universities and vocational Institutions.

Minister Bangalu said cadet program will take place in Grand Bassa, Nimba, Lofa and Montserrado Counties. About 140 persons are expected to benefit.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sport encourages all youth within these counties to take advantage of this national initiative and apply to benefit from this national endeavor” MYS Minister said.

According to him, the program is intended to train and develop potential youth in order to add value to their professional expertise.

Youth and Sport Minister said the program since 2009 has empowered 975 young Liberians which include 550 females and 425 males.

He indicated that about 200 young people benefitted from livelihood seed capital for business empowerment under the program.
