The Government of Liberia has termed as untrue the statement of former President George Manneh Weah accusing the Executive of hijacking democracy and trying to unconstitutionally remove embattled Speaker Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa.

Speaking Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information, Daniel O. Sando, said on Sunday, November 24, 2024, Weah accused the government of something he had no proof of.

The former president disclosed that the action of some lawmakers on Capitol Hill seeking the removal of the speaker is being supported by the Executive, but Deputy Minister Sando the allegations coming from the former president is not true.

He said the government holds the belief that the plot to remove the speaker from his position looks more like a leadership failure and an internal power struggle within the Collation for Democratic Change (CDC).

Minister Sando said the former president is noted for fighting toxic battles against permanent leaders of the CDC. “It is our thinking that the speaker’s competent leadership style scares Mr. Weah and the emergence of other competent leaders will take away allegiance from him,” he said.

Deputy Minister Sando said the government is focused on delivering to the Liberian people who were rescued from the backwardness brought upon them by the former president and his government.

He said the government remains committed to delivering on its ARREST Agenda and will not be distracted by continuous efforts of politicians rooming the corridors of Liberia.

According to him, President Joseph Boakai has absolutely nothing to do with what is happening at the House of Representatives. “We want to admonish the leader of the CDC to desist from making such allegations,” he said.
