The National Youth Wing of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP) has called for the immediate suspension of the party’s political leader, Cllr. Tiawan Saye Gongloe, and his former running mate, Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarkpahwolo.
The young partisans want the two leaders suspended for “grave violations” of the party’s constitution, values, and integrity.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 6, the Youth Wing unveiled a ten-count charge sheet against the two prominent political figures, accusing them of financial mismanagement, nepotism, misuse of public resources, and promoting internal division within the party.
According to the statement read by the Secretary General of the Youth Wing, Robert R. Wherboe, Jr., the allegations stem from the duo’s alleged abuse of public institutions, particularly the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where Cllr. Gongloe reportedly serves as a consultant.
“The EPA, under the influence of Cllr Gongloe, is allegedly being used as a political tool to sponsor partisan activities and reward loyalists, in violation of its mandate and the principle of neutrality in public service,” the statement read. The Youth Wing further alleged that campaign funds raised in the name of the LPP during the previous elections were not fully accounted for, and there has been no financial report since then, amounting to what it termed “financial corruption.”
“Key EPA positions have been allegedly filled by family members and close associates of both Cllr. Gongloe and Dr. Yarkpahwolo, sidelining other qualified and dedicated party members,” The LPP Youth Wing claimed. The two leaders have been accused of promoting factionalism within the LPP and using their influence to suppress dissenting voices ahead of the 2029 elections.
“Freedom of speech is under threat in our party,” the statement declared. “Any member who disagrees with their 2029 political agenda faces marginalization and retaliation.” “The time has come for bold and decisive leadership,” said Abraham Corneh, Chair of the Youth Wing. “We must uphold the Constitution and restore the credibility of our party. We will not remain silent in the face of injustice and internal decay.”
