Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama announced plans to provide technical support to Liberia’s cocoa sector through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG).

During a ceremony for Ambassador Musu Jatu Ruhle, he revealed that experts would soon travel to Liberia to discuss support focused on research innovation and sustainable practices.

This collaboration will see agronomists and extension officers work with Liberia’s Ministry of Agriculture and farmers to improve cocoa cultivation techniques, including pest management and nursery development. COCOBOD will supply high-yield, disease-resistant cocoa seedlings, and offer guidance on post-harvest processing to enhance cocoa quality for international markets.

Ambassador Ruhle expressed gratitude for Ghana’s support, highlighting the solidarity between the two nations and the shared goal of regional progress. Liberia’s cocoa industry faces challenges like low yields and aging trees, but with the expertise from Ghana, there is hope for revitalization.

This partnership exemplifies the potential of intra-African cooperation and aims to uplift local farmers while contributing to a more robust agricultural landscape in Africa. Mahama emphasized that this initiative is rooted in the long-standing relationship between Ghana and Liberia.
