The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Gbeme Horace-Kollie, has highlighted ongoing interventions to address the critical issue of children in the streets.   Speaking Tuesday, August 19, 2024, Minister Kollie said comprehensive measures are being undertaken by the Ministry to safeguard the welfare of vulnerable children across the nation.

She emphasized the urgency of addressing the plight of street children, recognizing it as a multifaceted issue that requires coordinated efforts from various stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society and the international community.

She said the ministry is committed to the “Support a Child, Secure the Future” project, an initiative aimed at removing children from the streets and providing them with access to education, healthcare and social protection services.

In addition to the street children initiative, the minister shed light on the broader strategic goals of the Ministry including; fostering gender equality, empowering women and girls and enhancing the participation of women in national development.

Minister Kollie also spoke of the ministry’s work in promoting inclusivity, combating gender-based violence, and supporting adolescent girls and young women in digital and technological spheres.

She pledged renewed commitment to transparency and public engagement and dedication to building a more inclusive society where every child, regardless of their background, can have a secure and prosperous future.
