The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection says it is deeply troubled by the recent surge in violence against women, girls and children across Liberia.

Minster Gbeme Horace-Kollie says recent reports have highlighted several distressing incidents, including the tragic death of little Angel whose lifeless body was recently discovered with several parts allegedly missing.  Min. Horace-Kollie states it’s reported that little Angel was abused and strangled to death, while a host of other cases from across the country have been reported.

Speaking through a press release on January 26, 2025, she adds that these heinous acts underscore the urgent need for comprehensive action to prevent such cruelty, especially when perpetrated by individuals who should be protectors and caregivers.

Min Horace-Kollie is deeply troubled by the alarming trend, as these actions not only violate their fundamental human rights but also impede the nation’s social development. She unequivocally condemns these inhumane abuses, some of which have led to the untimely deaths of promising children.

According to her, these inhumane actions continue to impede national progress and further undermine the gains made in ending violence against women and girls.  The Gender Minister empathizes with families who have lost a child as a result to violence or abuse.

Minister Horace-Kollie calls on the Ministry of Justice to intervene swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice, as she indicates a prompt action from state prosecutors.

She reaffirms the ministry’s commitment to advocating for and accelerating efforts to eradicate violence against women, girls, children and vulnerable populations.

“The Ministry remains steadfast in addressing the growing concern of abuse and we will continue to work collaboratively with partners, law enforcement agencies to end violence in all its forms,” she said.

Min. Horace-Kollie is calling on all citizens, including members of the Christian and Muslim communities, as well as partners to unequivocally denounce these attacks on women and girls.

“Let us unite and accelerate efforts to end violence against women, girls, and children now,” she said.
