Public Works Minister Roland L. Giddings has informed the Liberian Senate that work on the road corridor between Freeport and St. Paul Bridge will begin in October 2024. Speaking Thursday, September 12, 2024 before the Committee as Whole, Minister Giddings said the past government awarded a contract to Modern Development Management Corporation (MDMC) in tone of US$ 8,569,417.93 million, and the company signed a contract in May 2022 with duration of 15 months but extended the period to 12 months.

He said the past government gave MDMC US$ 3, 856,238.00 million for initial work on the corridor before the second payment can be made to them. The Public Works Minister said the company will start the work in October with the US$ 3.8 million given to them by the past government followed by another 30 percent payment. Giddings said the company was unable to start the work due to the rainy season, but conducts routine maintenance work on the corridor ahead of actual work in October 2024.

Minister Giddings said the corridor between Freeport to Point Four will be four lanes while Point Four to St. Paul Bridge will be two lanes as per the contract signed between the Government and MDMC Company.

He said the ministry is currently finalizing the procurement process that will see maintenance intervention on various roads and streets in Monrovia through asphalt patching and pavement surface conditioning.

Minister Giddings said the Japanese Government will do some work on the Gabriel Tucker Bridge to Freeport corridor, and procurement work is ongoing in Japan before the kickoff of the project in 2025.
