The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia has described as a reckless, irresponsible, and willful attempt by Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah to malign and defame the hard-earned reputation of Minister of State Sylvester Grigsby, citing bribery.

In a statement, the group said while it encourages free speech in Liberian society, especially elected representatives, it is a requirement that said free speech be void of sentiments that characterize the spread of misinformation.

“A fact-finding initiative conducted by the Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia has established that contrary to outburst by Rep. Yekeh Kolubah that he and other legislators in the lower house were bribed US$4,500 cash coupon to remove the Sitting Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, Hon. J. Fonati Koffa from office, the allegation is farfetched and largely premised on entrenched misinformation based on the following facts to wit,” the group said.

The group said it was established during its investigation that Rep. Kolubah is part of the block that supported Rep. Richard N. Koon during the Speakership election.

It furthered that President Joseph N. Boakai, being Standard Bearer of the Unity Party endorsed the bid of Hon Richard N. Koon to contest the Speakership election.

The group said upon his election as Speaker, Koffa committed himself to working with the Executive Branch to move the country forward with peace, development, and progress.

Since then, the group said Speaker Koffa has been having a good and cordial working relationship with President Boakai and the Executive Branch of government.

“The cordiality that exists between the House of Representatives and the Executive witnessed a fruitful meeting between President Joseph N. Boakai and Speaker J. Fonati Koffa on last Friday, March 22, 2024. That no meetings were held by the Richard N. Koon block for the removal of Speaker J. Fonati Koffa as claimed by Representative Yekeh Kolubah,” the group asserted.

The statement: “Based on the established facts outlined above, the Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia say that Hon. Yekeh Kolubah is completely out of order and his outburst is fundamentally strayed and lacks any iota of truth-telling.”

Free Thinkers said that gone are the days when Speakers were removed from office wantonly by schemes from the Executive Branch.

It added that Liberia’s democracy has matured over time and the need to keep it along this path is the expressed desire of the House of Representatives and the Executive Branch of government.
