Lone Star newly appointed head coach, Mario Marinica picks up his first win in charge for Liberia against Djibouti in the first leg of the AFCON Preliminary in Morocco.

The Coach achieved a major away victory for Liberia in Morocco on Tuesday March 20, 2024.
Liberia ended the 90 minutes with two goals in favor, courtesy of Mo Sangare and Murphy Oscar Dorley.

It was a huge step forward for coach Mario who was given a mandate to qualify Liberia for the AFCON in Morocco 2025.

Liberia will need at least a draw in order to advance to the 2025 AFCON qualifiers proper.

As the saying goes, you need to crawl before you walk, jog before you sprint. Since Liberia won, they will strive to develop their efforts to win by incorporating some entertainment.

Coach Mario, who called up 18 local players in his 24 man listing, gave 9 players their national team debut.

Defenders Natus Swen, Chanucy Freeman, and Philip Tarnue were the players from Watanga FC who earned their senior caps.

Striker William Gibson from Heaven Eleven FC also received his first senior cap, while Terry Sackor played his first senior national AFCON qualifier game.

Liberians are optimistic about the second leg against Djibouti in Monrovia. They aim to secure a victory, which will serve as clear evidence of Mario’s rapid football progress.
