Beth Dillon, a fire victim of Kakata, Margibi County, has called on the Government of Liberia and other humanitarians to come to the aid of her family after they lost their seven-bedroom house due to a fire disaster. Speaking Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Madam Dillon said she is in total confusion since the incident and has been to the hospital more than twice. She narrated that on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at about 10: PM, she and her kids were watching movies in the living room before noticing that two rooms of the house were in flames.
They managed their way out of the house with no one sustaining any injuries. However, they were unable to retrieve any of their belongings from the fire. Presently, she and her family are taking shelter in a small room offered to them in the home of the community chairman, but are lacking mattresses to sleep on, food and clothes.
“I lost about US$750 worth of goods in the fire plus my husband’s documents, and I do not know the actual source of the fire,” she said. The mother of eight said that her children are out of school due to the tragic situation, and are being subjected to sleeping in the same room with her and her husband, something they are not used to.
