Finance, Others Summoned Over US$100M Loan Deal

The Plenary of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 summoned the Ministry of Finance and Development (MFDP), Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Public Works, Public Procurement Concession Commission (PPCC) and the National Road Fund (NRF) to provide updates and clarity on a 100 Million Investment Loan implemented by East International Road Construction Company.

The decision was triggered following a communication from Representative Dorwohn T. Gleekia seeking the indulgence of plenary to invited ministers and agencies to give concrete information on the loan given to EAST International for the construction of the ELWA-RIA Highway.

Nimba County Representative said that it is prudent the members of the august body be furnished with all necessary details of the loan because it will be repaid by the Liberian Tax Payers.

According to him, it is necessary to know the total amount that was received so far from the $100 million loan and how much has been consumed for road construction to date.

He said they should bring along a copy of the official bank statement of the loan account for verification and financial clarity.

He said due to the significance of the project to national development, it is crucial that the legislature remains informed about its financial progress and execution,” he said. Following the reading, a motion was filed that Ministries of Finance, Justice, Public Works, PPCC and NRF appear next February 25, 2025.
