The Liberia National Police (LNP), acting on investigative reports and formal recommendations from its Professional Standards Department (PSD), and with the endorsement of the Inspector General, has taken a range of disciplinary measures. According to a release, these measures include dismissals, suspensions, reinstatements, and exonerations. The actions targeted officers found in violation of duty, ethics, and internal regulations, while also recognizing compliance with corrective directives. Collectively, these actions underscore the LNP’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and the rule of law.Patrolmen Vaagbason Vaagbay, Aloysius S. Sandolo, and Adolphus Q. Kwanue were each suspended for one month off duty with salary deduction for engaging in unauthorized “self-styled” police operations near the Liberia National Police Academy and Training School junction in Paynesville. They were subsequently disrobed in accordance with Section 32.91 of the Police Act of 2015 for acts of corruption involving extortion.

Patrolman Wilson Z. Wondeh’s suspension has been modified from one month to two months off duty with salary deduction for soliciting a bribe from a female driver at the Varmoma checkpoint; while Patrolman Ephraim M. Nah is suspended for three months without pay for unwarranted use of force against Patrolman Alfred P. Gomah, resulting in injury, and for neglect of duty.

The LNP also disclosed that Patrolman Alfred P. Gomah was exonerated from disciplinary action after an investigation established he did not initiate the fight and acted to advise against unprofessional behavior. Patrolman Ralph N. Gaye was suspended for one month off duty with a salary deduction for omission and negligence, including failing to intervene in the fight and circulating a video of the incident on social media.

“Patrolman Gerald Watson of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) was dismissed for accumulating 117 days of absence without official leave (AWOL). His prolonged absence undermined the smooth operation of the ERU,” LNP announced. Chief Inspector of Police, Jimmy T. Kaydor, assigned at the Maryland County Police Detachment, was suspended for one month without salary for unsatisfactory conduct; releasing a confidential photo of victim Mamie Williams to Fred Jappah and instructing him to publish it on social media, and further authorizing Fred’s release from detention without approval.

Sergeant Markardor Tuor is also suspended for two months off-duty with salary deduction for corruption, after being captured in a viral video receiving money from a taxi driver around Techno House at the Jallah Town intersection. “Patrolman Vanka K. McCarthy is suspended for two months without pay for abuse of authority and unsatisfactory conduct. He was found guilty of compromising an accident case in Sinkor, Monrovia by releasing vehicles involved without proper investigation, illegally disconnecting Mr. Christian Gaye’s LEC meter and placing his house on direct current, and refusing to vacate a room after his paid occupancy expired,” the release said.
