Unity Party (UP) Youth Congress is requesting the Deputy Director of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Gwee Forkpa, to expose alleged drug traffickers working in the Government of Liberia. Speaking at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing recently, LDEA Deputy Director Forkpa accused members of the Liberian government of involvement in drug trafficking.
In line with LDEA official’s claim, the UP Youth Congress said they find the allegation to be a highest national security concern. They added that if the allegation is true, the fight against drugs and narcotics in Liberia is being actively sabotaged from within the very institutions mandated to protect our people.
“This is unacceptable, intolerable, and constitutes a betrayal of the Liberian people. We therefore, in the strongest and most unequivocal terms, call on Mr. Forkpa to immediately and publicly name the individuals, whether in the Executive, Legislative, or Judicial branches, which he knows to be involved in drug trafficking or obstructing the national fight against narcotics, the release said.
The Youth Congress said the Liberian people deserve to know the truth and the youth of the country will not stand by while shadowy figures in high offices destroy their future with drugs and impunity. According to them, if LDEA Deputy Director General fails to disclose these names within 72 hours, the Unity Party National Youth Congress will consider his statement as reckless, irresponsible, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
“In such a case, we will demand his resignation or dismissal for gross dereliction of duty and for undermining public trust in the national security apparatus. Youth Congress said it stands ready to mobilize the youth of Liberia in the defense of Liberia’s future and the time for half-measures is over and the time for truth, justice, and accountability is now.
