Staffers of the Ministry of National Defense and personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) are expected to benefit from the recent visit of an Indian Delegation.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, a delegation headed by the Second Secretary of the Embassy of India paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of National Defense acting boss Retired Brigadier General Gereldeine Janet George.
During the visit, India Embassy Second Secretary Jitendra S. Rawat, outlined several important issues that will benefit both the MoD staff and the AFL personnel, but didn’t disclose what exactly the benefits would be.
Mr. Rawat said over the years, the Government of India has been working with authorities of the Ministry of National Defense in providing scholarships for both MoD staff and the AFL to take training in India.
He said that the relationship between the both countries is not only for the MoD staff and AFL personnel, but the Government of Liberia.
According to Rawat, during former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s regime, she visited India twice in 2023 when she was conferred the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peaceful Disarmament, including several other governmental programs that she participated in 2015.
He also explained that the former Deputy Minister for Operations at the Ministry of National Defense, Prince K. Vincent, traveled to India for the India Africa Defense Dialogue IADD in 2022.
For her part, the Acting Minister for Defense, Rtd. Brigadier General Gereldeine Janet George appreciated the many contributions that the Government of India had given both the MoD and AFL.
The Acting Defense boss also stressed the need for MoD staff to participate in Indian training programs so as to enhance their skills and capacities.
