The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) has condemned recent violent protests occasioned by massive looting, and destruction of properties belonging to Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC).
Some citizens of Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County were engaged in violent against the Mining Company, which led to the loss of lives.

A statement by CSNL said an investigation has established that the protests violated a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the citizens of Gola Konneh District and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the MoU, there should be no protests against Bea Mountain Mining Corporation for four years.
CSNL also disclosed that the protest was allegedly incited by some prominent sons of Grand Cape Mount County for personal aggrandizement.

The group called on the Liberia National Police to expeditiously investigate the incident, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
CSNL pointed out that perpetrators of the violence at Bea Mountain operational sites undermined and destabilized the peaceful co-existence of the citizens in Kinjor.

According to the group, since the commencement of the company’s expansion, it has employed over four thousand workers and more than six thousand contractors, most of whom are Liberians.
They added that that the expansion has also increased the company’s tax portfolio in Liberia.
Therefore, the group said if an investigation is not conducted to bring the perpetrators to justice, it has the proclivity to drive away investors from Liberia.

“The Civil Society Network of Liberia investigation also established that Grand Cape Mount County District #2, Representative, Mohammed Dosil was publicly seen facilitating the violence in Kinjor against Bea Mountain Mining Corporation. The Liberia National Police and Ministry of Information is on record for saying that a certain lawmaker incited the violence. Representative Mohammed Dosil must be brought to account for his role in the Kinjor violence, which cost the loss of lives and properties. No one is above the law,” CXSNL stressed.
