Outgoing Chief Justice, Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh has opened the August Term of the Supreme Court with a final charge saying farewell to the Judiciary. Addressing judges, magistrates, members of the bar, and the public on Monday, August 11, 2025, Chief Justice Yuoh reflected on her tenure and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have served as head of the Judiciary.
She mentioned the importance of upholding the rule of law, maintaining judicial independence, and strengthening public trust in the courts. Justice Youh urged her colleagues and the legal community to remain committed to justice and peace.
As the Chief Justice exits the Supreme Court Bench at age 70, her final statement marked the end of a distinguished judicial career. According to the Judiciary Law, Title 17, Liberian Code of Law Revised, “Each judicial circuit shall meet four times a year in quarterly sessions that is: the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth Judicial Circuits of the Circuit Court shall open their quarterly sessions on the second Monday in February, May, August, and November in each year.
The quarterly sessions of these circuits shall be entitled February, May, August and November sessions. The Sixth Judicial Circuit of the Circuit Court shall open its quarterly session on the third Monday in March, June, September and December in each year.
The quarterly sessions of that circuit shall be entitled the March, June, September and December Sessions. The duration of these courts shall be 10 days before the opening of each quarterly session, and there shall be a pre-trial chamber session to be held by the circuit judge assigned to sit during the quarterly sessions which shall be immediately followed by a trial session beginning with the opening of each quarterly session and continuing for 42 consecutive days not including Sundays and legal holidays unless sooner terminated.
