Boakai Asked To Act …On LDEA’s Investigative Report

Boakai-Asked-To-Act-On-LDEAs-Investigative-Report

The Civil Society Network of Liberia (CSNL) is asking President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to implement the investigative report involving the suspended Director of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Abraham Kromah and his deputies.

According to a statement issued in Monrovia on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, CSNL observed that it is three months since the altercation erupted between the officials of LDEA, and the subsequent constitution of a committee to investigate circumstances that led to the incident.

On June 4, 2024, President Boakai suspended Abraham Kromah and his deputies, Gbawu Kowou and Hassan Fadiga. A committee was set up to investigate the three officials relative to a disturbance at the LDEA but nothing has been said about the outcome of the probe.

However, the Civil Society Network of Liberia is claiming that the LDEA Investigative report has been submitted to the Office of the President for review and action. “We are amazed as to why President Joseph Boakai has not acted on the findings of the report, when the fight against illicit drugs in Liberia requires a full robust leadership of the LDEA.  If President Boakai is sincere in fighting illicit drugs and harmful substances, as promised in his campaign, he needs to release the LDEA Investigative Report and implement the recommendations contained in the report,” the group stressed.

The CSNL said it has discovered that the drugs cartel in Liberia is fighting against the release of the LDEA Investigative Report. “The CSNL has gathered from the LDEA Investigative Report that Col. Abraham Kromah did nothing wrong and should be re-instated with all privileges, while his two deputies, Gbawu Kowou and Hassan Fadiga should not be re-instated for the acts of insubordination they rendered their boss.”

The Civil Society Network observed that the momentum on the war against drugs in Liberia have dropped due to the prolonged investigation and delay in decision-making. “Hence, the CSNL is pleading with President Joseph Boakai to take charge of the government by dealing decisively and proactively with national issues of emergency, like Drug Abuse. Considering the critical role of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency in combating drugs and clamping down on drugs traffickers,” CSNL stated.
