‘Big Heads To Roll’…Koffa, Others Named Persons of Interest In Capitol Fire

Liberia National Police (LNP) on Thursday, January 23, 2024 in a communication to the House of Representatives named embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, Representatives Saah Foko, Abu B. Kamara, Dixon W. Seboe, Priscilla A. Cooper, J. Marvin Cole and Jacob C. Debee as persons of interest in the capitol building arson attack of December 18, 2024.

The Police Inspector General Gregory O.W Coleman said they acknowledge the gravity of the recent fire incident at the Capitol Building and its profound impact on the nation’s legislative activities and heritage.

The LNP boss said as part of the ongoing investigations into this unfortunate event, the LNP has identified several persons of interest whose insights could be crucial to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Given the sensitive nature of this investigation and the need for transparent proceedings, we would like to inform you that we have identified members of your house as persons of interest to this ongoing investigation and will be calling them for questioning,” he said.

Coleman said LNP is committed to conducting the investigation professionally to ensure that all individuals’ rights are respected, being confident that the cooperation of the House of Representatives will significantly enhance their efforts to prevent future occurrences of such incidents.

He said LNP respectfully requests a meeting with the identified representatives at a convenient time to discuss the terms and framework of their participation in the investigation.

“The LNP is prepared to provide any necessary support and coordinate closely with your office to ensure a smooth and effective process. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter of national importance,” he said.

Meanwhile, embattled Speaker Koffa in a Facebook post said he understands that a communication was sent to the House of Representatives Majority Bloc where the Liberia National Police had invited him and others to assist in the investigation of the fire incident. “Since the unfortunate occurrences of this event, I have consistently cooperated and ensured the cooperation of all persons under my employ,” Koffa said.

Koffa said he remains absolutely innocent of any involvement in the event and encouraged the authorities to seek international partners’ assistance to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
