Augustine Roberts, a 20-year-old resident of Rivercess County, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his involvement in a violent robbery and assault case. According to a report dated September 17, 2024, Roberts was handed a 20-year sentence for armed robbery and an additional 5 years for aggravated assault by Judge D. Onesimus Banwon of the 14th Judicial Circuit Court in Rivercess County.

The sentencing follows Roberts’ arrest on April 5, 2024, in connection with a robbery that occurred on April 3, 2024.  According to the prosecution, Roberts used a knife to forcibly take a motorcycle, two mobile phones, and $50,000 LD from his victim on Glanyah Highway.

Attorney Martin M. Tumoe, County Attorney for Rivercess County, led the prosecution in the case. Roberts was defended by Cllr. Abraham Nyounway and Cllr. James Kaba. In response to the sentencing, Roberts’ defense counsel has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Liberia, challenging the sentencing.
