The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has commended the Supreme Court of Liberia for its pivotal role played in resolving the legislative impasse that gripped the nation for the past eight months.

According to a statement issued by the ANC through its National Chairman Lafayette E. Gould, this marks a significant turning point, paving the way for renewed collaboration and progress within our government.  Gould thanked the Supreme Court for their unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law, which has illuminated the path forward for our beloved country.

The ANC acknowledged Former Speaker J. Fonati Koffa for his exemplary display of integrity and respect for the law, stating that his decision to graciously resign has set a powerful precedent, demonstrating that true leadership is rooted in humility and a commitment to the greater good.

“By stepping aside, Former Speaker Koffa has allowed for a much-needed reset in the 1st branch of government, enabling us to move forward with renewed vigor and purpose,” Gould said.

Meanwhile, the Alternative National Congress has extended warmest congratulations to Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon on his lawful election as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, adding that his election is a testament to the democratic principles that underpin the nation and a reflection of the collective will of the people.

“Speaker Koon’s decision to listen to the trumpet of law and resign in order to undergo the proper electoral process is a commendable act of leadership. We pledge to work with Speaker Koon during his tenure, as long we work together to uplift our people and propel our nation to new developmental heights, the ANC Chairman said.

He noted that while embarking on this new chapter, the party looks forward to working with President Boakai and his administration, recognizing that the success of his government is intrinsically linked to the success of the nation and its people.

“By fostering a spirit of cooperation and unity, we can ensure that the aspirations of our citizens are realized and that Liberia continues to thrive. Nevertheless, we will not hesitate to checkmate the government when the need arises. We will remain a constructive opposition during this period,” Said Chairman Gould.

He pointed out that this momentous occasion serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of Liberia’s democracy, a testament to the enduring spirit of the Liberian people and their collective determination to build a brighter future.

The statement: “As we move forward, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to the principles of justice, equality, and progress. Long live our democracy, long live our country. Liberia First!”
