The Government of Liberia has initiated the process of acquiring the much-discussed 285 yellow machines. Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung and his delegation are currently in China negotiating with heavy machinery manufacturers.

The government has reportedly increased its payment capacity to $22 million to purchase the equipment. It is important to note that no company has been selected yet, and the purpose of the trip is not to finalize discussions for the purchase.

The delegation includes Minister of Public Works Roland Giddings, Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) Bodger Scott Johnson, Deputy Director for Operations at the General Services Agency (GSA) Robert Wilson, and Assistant Minister for Budget at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning Sarah Mulbah.

Vice President Koung and the delegation are conducting a physical and technical verification of the companies that have submitted bids to supply the government with yellow machines. The objective of the visit is to inspect and compare the quality of equipment, plant capacity, and production standards of three companies.

On Monday, June 16, 2025, Vice President Koung and his delegation toured the Sany Heavy Machinery Factory in Changsha City and the Shantui Construction Machinery Company LTD.

Shantui specializes in the assembly of bulldozers, as well as research and development in electronic automated machinery, while Sany Group is a major manufacturer of machinery.

Li Qin, Vice President of Sany Company, highlighted the quality of his products and the work they have accomplished worldwide. He expressed interest in collaborating with Liberia on its development projects if his company is selected.

During discussions, Vice President Koung emphasized Liberia’s strong interest in collaborative opportunities. The executives from both companies expressed eagerness to establish a productive partnership that benefits both parties. Koung also stressed the importance of ensuring value for money and reaffirmed the commitment of the Boakai-Koung administration to drive transformative initiatives in Liberia.
