Civil Law Court “A” Judge George W. Smith has found the Fadiga Brothers guilty of defaming the character of former Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Boss Abraham Kromah. Judge Smith ordered the Fadiga Brothers to pay $1.5 million in damages to Kromah.
On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Judge delivered his ruling, stating that the actions of Hassan Fadiga, who served as Deputy Director under Kromah before both were suspended and later dismissed, along with his brother Hussein, were reckless. The judgment was issued after Hassan and Hussein Fadiga failed to appear in court to present their side of the case, despite several writs of summons being issued against them.
Judge Smith awarded former LDEA Director General Abraham Kromah a total of $1.5 million in general damages after finding Hassan and Hussein Fadiga liable for libel. He remarked that their actions were not only reckless but also defamatory, resulting in severe financial consequences for Kromah. Additionally, the Judge imposed $100,000 in punitive damages to deter such misconduct in the future.
In February 2025, the dismissed LDEA Boss filed a complaint against the Fadiga Brothers, seeking compensation for damage to his character and losses to his business. While he requested $5 million in damages, the Judge ultimately granted $1 million and $100,000 in punitive damages. It is noteworthy that the defendants disrespected the court summons, leading Judge Smith to issue a default judgment against them on March 17, 2025.
