The Child Justice Section at the Ministry of Justice conducted a drug awareness outreach at Boatswain High School on Bushrod Island. The outreach targeted school administrators, teachers and students. The initiative is part of the Child Justice Section’s ongoing efforts to prevent drug and substance abuse among young people.
According to a press release, the awareness focused on educating participants about the dangers of drug use, its impact on mental health, academic performance, and future opportunities. Facilitators highlighted the legal implications of drug-related activities and the importance of early prevention and positive decision-making.
Speaking during the program, Louise Macaulay Dweh, Administrative Coordinator of the Child Justice Section, emphasized the role of school administrators, teachers and students in identifying early warning signs of drug abuse and providing guidance and support to at-risk students. Students were encouraged to resist peer pressure, make informed choices, and seek help when faced with challenges.
The administration of Boatswain High School welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. The school reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with government institutions to promote a safe, healthy, and drug-free learning environment for all students. The Ministry of Justice, through its Child Justice Section, continues to engage schools and communities nationwide in promoting child protection and youth development.
